Our Philosophy
At Little Wildflowers Preschool, our philosophy and method of educating is inspired by Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy. We use the term “inspired” because we feel that our values of education are reflected in the Montessori approach and we will use those values as a foundation for our continuous developing school. It is based on the belief that children have a natural desire to learn and that, when they are placed in an enriched environment with specially designed materials and trained teachers, they learn quickly and easily through hands on experience. Dr. Maria Montessori began work in the slums of Rome and through careful observation of the children in her care, she discovered how to help children learn about self-care, math, language, cultural studies and size, shape, colors, etc. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the educators offer age-appropriate activities to guide them. Our overall goal is to focus on the individual needs and potential of each child, as well as their emotional, social, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development.
Mission Statement
The mission of Little Wildflowers Preschool is to foster a peaceful, enticing atmosphere that will provide self-motivated growth for children in all areas of their development. We strive to nurture each child’s natural desire to learn, explore and understand the world around them.
Our Programs
Montessori Inspired
Our philosophy and method of educating is inspired by Maria Montessori. It is the belief that through this method children have a natural desire to learn when placed in an enriched environment with specially designed materials. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the educators offer age-appropriate activities to guide them and hands on experiences. Our overall goal is to focus on the individual needs and potential of each child as well as their emotional, social, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development.
Bilingual Education
Little Wildflowers is a dual language Spanish - English program that takes pride in speaking both Spanish and English to all children throughout the day. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the first six years of a child’s life are key for the child’s development and therefore; a child has a greater advantage in learning a new language and becoming bilingual. Our school will teach children basic Spanish words and phrases which will lead to conversations in Spanish. The 2 - 3½ mixed age group will first learn the colors, shapes, letters, numbers and simple Spanish action words moving into descriptive challenging words in Spanish. Our preschool age children 3½ - 5 will refine their spanish basic action words to conversational Spanish and continue to build the fundamentals of bilingualism.
Environmental Awareness
Each natural thing has a purpose; each bug has a job. Each dried leaf will eventually degrade into nutrient-rich soil to feed the tree from which it fell. Nature wastes nothing. Beginning this process in the early years, when attitudes toward the world around them are forming, is essential. Doing this will help to give young children a new perspective, a simple idea from which they can begin to grow. At Little Wildflowers we strive to educate our children about environmental awareness by teaching them the importance of recycling, composting, reducing waste and reusing resources.
